Texas Lutheran's Flores in tie for 7th after one round of SCAC Championships

BLANCO, Texas -- Texas Lutheran sophomore Wynter Flores shot an opening-round 82 and sits in a tie for seventh after one round of the 2021 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship.
 
At Vaaler Creek Golf Club, Flores (San Antonio/Incarnate Word HS) was six-over on the front nine and four-over on the back-nine. She birdied the par-5 8th and the par-5 10th.
 
First-year player Audre Garza (New Braunfels/Canyon) is in a tie for 17th after an 89 in the first round. Sophomore Samantha De La Rosa (San Antonio/Brennan) is in 24th after a 99.
 
TLU has three players in the field and does not qualify for the team championship. Four players must play on the team to count in the team standings.
 
Southwestern leads the tournament by one shot with one round to play. The Pirates posted a 319. Trinity is second at 320.
 
University of St. Thomas (336), Schreiner (402), and Centenary College (424) round out the team standings.
 
Madison Goldberg of Southwestern shot an ever-par 72 to lead by six shots entering the final 18 holes.
 
Kiona Hsiu of Trinity is second after a 78. Erin Flynn of Trinity is third after a 79.
