Five Bulldogs Earn All-SCAC Honors

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran women's basketball placed four student-athletes on All-SCAC Teams and had one honoree on the All-SCAC Freshman Team in the league's annual postseason honors, announced on Saturday.

Senior guard Kailee Mulkey (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) earned a place on the All-SCAC First Team while junior guard Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) earned Second Team honors. Juniors Sarahi Jones (Los Fresnos/Los Fresnos) and Angelina Sotelo (San Marcos/San Marcos) landed All-SCAC honorable mention honors. All four players appeared on balloting for coaches and sports information directors. This is the third straight year the Bulldogs have placed one or more players on the first team.

Mulkey closes out her Texas Lutheran career as a four-time All-SCAC selection including a three-time first team honoree. The New Braunfels native is Texas Lutheran's leading scorer with 12.9 points per game, 6.7 rebounds per game, 2.3 assists per game, and a SCAC-leading 3.0 steals per game. She has scored in double-figures in 19 of 26 games this season with four double-doubles. Mulkey scored a season-high 22 points against Ozarks in the SCAC Tournament quarterfinals and pulled down a season-high 11 rebounds four times. Most recently, she became the program's all-time leader in steals in the NCAA-era and has 221 steals to date while moving into sixth in program history with 1,157 career points to date.

Sansano earns her third career All-SCAC honor with her first appearance on the All-SCAC second team. TLU's second leading scorer with 12.1 points per game, Sansano has been one of the SCAC's most efficient scorers as she finished the regular season second in the conference with a 55.4 percent field goal percentage and her 38.5 clip from beyond the arc would rank sixth in the SCAC with enough attempts. The San Antonio native, who missed five games this season, has scored in double-figures in 14 games this season including a season-high 22 points against Howard Payne. Her effort at the free throw line is a team-best, shooting 85.7 percent on the season, ranking third in the SCAC and in the top 30 nationally. In addition to her prolific scoring, Sansano adds 3.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.6 steals and holds a 1.5 assist-to-turnover ratio. She has dished out four or more assists 12 times this season including career-best nine against Dallas and has dished out a career-high 76 assists for the year.

Sotelo earns her first career All-SCAC honor as an All-SCAC honorable mention honoree. The team's third leading scorer, she averages 10.7 points. 3.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game this season. The San Marcos sharp shooter holds a 40.2 percent clip from the floor and 35.5 percent clip from the three-point line, ranking eighth in the SCAC. She has knocked down 44 threes this season and has scored in double figures 16 times while scoring a career-high 19 points twice this season.

Jones also earns her first career All-SCAC honor as a member of the All-SCAC honorable mention team, leading the team with 8.6 rebounds per game and 0.7 blocks per game. The Los Fresnos native adds 9.5 points, 1.8 assists, and 1.4 steals per game, all career-highs. She recorded four double-doubles on the season, including a 14-point, 19-rebound double-double in a win against Mary Hardin-Baylor. Jones has hit double figures 12 times including a career-high 19 points in a win at Southwestern. From the floor, she is shooting 38.2 percent, 29.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 72.7 percent from the free throw line.

Freshman Zaria Solis (Burnet/Burnet) earned a spot on the All-SCAC Freshman Team. Solis, a dual-sport athlete who is also a member of the TLU Volleyball team, came into her own late in the season averaging 10.7 points and 6.4 rebounds over the final seven games of the regular season, finishing in double figures in five of those contests. Solis recorded her first career double-double at Schreiner with 13 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks. Solis finished in double figures in seven of her 17 games played this season.
