#RV TLU Takes Down Schreiner, 69-57
KERRVILLE, Texas -- The #RV Texas Lutheran women's basketball team (19-3, 13-1 SCAC) won their fifth straight game, taking down Schreiner on their Senior Day in Kerrville Saturday evening, 69-57.
Senior Kailee Mulkey (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) recorded her third double-double of the season, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds in the win over the Mountaineers (6-17, 4-10 SCAC). Mulkey would make history Saturday by tallying four steals to become Texas Lutheran's career leader in steals (210) in the program's NCAA history, passing Savannah Hight (208, 2013-17). Chantel Mize (1996-00) remains Texas Lutheran's all-time leader in the program's entire history with 251 career steals.
Freshman Zaria Solis continued her career weekend, recording her first career double-double with 13 points, a career-high 14 rebounds, and four blocks, also a career-high, off the bench for the Bulldogs. She shot 5-of-8 from the field and 3-of-5 from the free throw line.
Junior Angelina Sotelo (San Marcos/San Marcos) finished the game with a team-high 16 points, her fifth double-digit outing in her last six games. Sophomore Callista Perez (San Antonio/Stevens) scored 12 points alongside three rebounds and two steals. Sarahi Jones (Los Fresnos/Los Fresnos) grabbed 14 rebounds to tie Solis for the team-high while adding seven points.
Texas Lutheran led for all but 54 seconds of game time on Saturday.
Seven different Bulldogs scored in the opening quarter as TLU came out firing in the first quarter, taking an 18-11 lead after the first ten minutes.
TLU added another point to their lead to take a 34-26 halftime lead. Zaria Solis, Angelina Sotelo, and Callista Perez all had four points in the second quarter.
Sotelo led the Texas Lutheran offense through the third quarter, scoring seven of the team's 17 points as their lead extended to double-digits.
The Mountaineers showed one final burst of life in the fourth, clawing back to briefly take the lead before the Bulldogs would stave off the upset behind a combined 11 points from Kailee Mulkey and Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) in the fourth.
Texas Lutheran remains in first place heading into the final week of the 2024-25 regular season. The Bulldogs will travel to Abilene to face the #RV McMurry War Hawks in a rematch of two of the SCAC's best teams and SCAC Tournament qualifiers on Friday, Feb. 21.
