SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran women's basketball rebounded from their season opening loss on Friday with a 78-62 wire-to-wire victory over Howard Payne Saturday evening. The win was highlighted by double-digit efforts from Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST), Kayla Presley (Kyle/San Marcos), and Brianna Wilson (Austin/Cotulla).
Sansano matched her career-high with 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting in addition to five rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Kayla Presley stuffed the stat sheet with ten points, four assists, and a team-high seven rebounds. Brianna Wilson joined them in double figures with ten points off the bench for the Bulldogs.
As a team, Texas Lutheran shot a much more typical 44.1 percent after shooting under 30 percent in the season opener on Friday and dished out 22 assists.
The Bulldog offense had an energetic start Saturday, as dynamic passing allowed the Bulldogs to get solid looks and start the game on a 10-3 run and would take an 18-13 lead into the second quarter.
TLU stretched its lead to 23 entering halftime after limiting the Yellow Jackets to just eight points in the second quarter and led by 24 entering the fourth as the patented Bulldogs defense kept the Yellow Jackets at bay. Sansano heated up in the third with seven points on 3-of-4 shooting.
The Yellow Jackets could never quite get a run going as the Bulldogs forced 24 turnovers to walk away with the 78-62 win. TLU would maintain a 44-31 advantage on the glass and 40-22 advantage in the paint on Saturday.
Texas Lutheran is back in action Thursday morning (Nov. 14) as they travel to San Antonio to face NCAA Division I's Incarnate Word in exhibition action. Tip-off is set for 11 AM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
