Texas Lutheran Falls to Colorado College, 57-52, in SCAC Semifinals

SHREVEPORT, LA -- The No. 2 seed Texas Lutheran women's basketball team fell to No. 3 seed Colorado College, 57-52, Saturday night in the 2024 SCAC Tournament Semifinals in the Gold Dome in Shreveport, Louisiana. Texas Lutheran fell to 20-6 as their historic season came to an end.

Kayla Presley (Kyle/San Marcos) led the Bulldogs as the only Bulldog in double figures with 16 points and added four rebounds. Kailee Mulkey (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) ended with 10 points for the Bulldogs. Emerald St. Laurent (The Woodlands/Oak Ridge) added eight points off the bench.

Colorado College came out on fire, shooting a scorching 61 percent from the field, putting TLU in a 23-13 hole after the first. Texas Lutheran would trail 39-21 entering halftime.

The Bulldogs patented stifling defense showed up in the third quarter, limiting the Tigers to eight points and just two made field goals in the third as the Bulldogs chipped away at the Colorado College lead.

Both teams struggled from the field in the fourth as they combined to shoot 19% from the field but thanks to the Tigers converting timely free throws they were able to hold off the Bulldogs who shrunk the Tiger lead to as low as two points late in the fourth.

The Bulldogs  - a team picked to finish third in the preseason poll - conclude the 2023-24 season with a 20-6 record, going 13-3 in the SCAC to claim second place in the conference in the regular season. In 2023-24, the Bulldogs had the best start in program history that included a win over NCAA Division-II St. Edward's and won 20 games for just the fourth time in program history. The Bulldogs will graduate three seniors - Courtney Hesseltine (Sinton/Sinton), Kailey Lacy (Pflugerville/Hendrickson) and Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley).
