Texas Lutheran Drops Road Contest at Schreiner, 65-61

KERRVILLE, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran women's basketball team fell to Schreiner, 65-61, Friday night inside Schreiner Athletic and Event Center. Texas Lutheran fell to 13-4 on the season.

Kayla Presley (Kyle/San Marcos) recorded her second career double-double finishing with 14 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and a career-high four blocks. Kailee Mulkey (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) ended with 10 points for the Bulldogs. Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) tallied a career-high five steals.

The two teams finished the opening period at an 18-18 stalemate with Presley accounting for 11 of the Bulldogs 18 points in the quarter. Texas Lutheran would trail 36-33 entering halftime.

The Mountaineers doubled their lead over the course of the third quarter as Schreiner carried a six-point, 52-46 lead into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter saw the Mountaineers shoot 66.7% from the field while the Bulldogs shot an uncharacteristic 26% in the final period.

A Sansano three-pointer shrunk the Mountaineer lead to two points with 55 seconds remaining. Texas Lutheran would have two opportunities to tie or take the lead in the final 15 seconds but was unable to get either opportunity to fall.
