SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Junior forward Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) scored a career-high 19 points and tallied 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season and fifth of her career to lead the Bulldogs but Texas Lutheran women's basketball's season came to an end at the hands of No. 4/5 Trinity, 77-62, in their SCAC Semifinal matchup at Calgaard Gymnasium on the campus of Trinity University.
Freshman Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) joined Moehrig in double figures with 13 points and five rebounds for the Bulldogs. Juliana Tapia (San Antonio/O'Connor) matched her season-high with three assists.
The Tigers would shoot 45.5-percent from the field in the first quarter and command a 23-13 lead after the opening period. Turnovers would spell doom for the Bulldogs in the first half as the Tigers forced 18 TLU turnovers in the first half to take 38-25 lead into halftime.
The Tigers would never relinquish the lead, leading the Bulldogs wire-to-wire. Texas Lutheran would outscore the Tigers 19-15 in the fourth quarter - cutting the Tigers lead to 15, but never coming closer. The Texas Lutheran's bench outscored Trinity's bench by a commanding 44-12 margin.
The Bulldogs - a team picked to finish third in the preseason poll - conclude the 2022-23 season with a 14-12 record, going 9-7 in the SCAC to claim fourth place in the conference in the regular season. Lauren Sansano concludes the season with a 92.6 free throw percentage - concluding the season as the SCAC leader with a new TLU program record and a mark that is second in SCAC history for a single-season. Sansano's mark also currently ranks second in NCAA Division-III and could inevitably lead NCAA Division-III on the year. The Bulldogs will graduate two seniors - Sydney Shaw (Lockhart/Lockhart) and Taylor Skurka (New Braunfels/Steele). We thank them for all of their contributions to the Texas Lutheran women's basketball program.
