TLU Falls to Schreiner, 72-70, in Regular Season Finale

KERRVILLE, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran women's basketball team fell 72-70 Saturday evening to the Schreiner University Mountaineers at Schreiner Event Center in the 2023 regular season finale. The Mountaineers would outscore the Bulldogs 19-16 in the fourth quarter to avoid the loss on their Senior Day.

With the loss, the Bulldogs conclude the regular season 13-11, 9-7 in SCAC action, and will finish fourth in the SCAC in the regular season. The fourth-seed Bulldogs will face the University of Dallas Crusaders in the opening round of the 2023 SCAC Tournament on Friday, Feb 24. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 PM at Calgaard Gymnasium on the campus of Trinity University as the two teams face off in a rubber match after splitting the regular season series. All streaming and stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.

Senior Kailey Lacy (Pflugerville/Hendrickson) played 23 minutes, leading the Bulldogs with 18 points on 6-of-14 shooting, including matching her career-high of six made threes set against Schreiner earlier this season. Kailey Mulkey (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) would join Lacy in double-figures with 13 points, five rebounds, and a career-high six assists. Davi'Yanna Jones (San Antonio/Stevens) finished with 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Angelina Sotelo (San Marcos/San Marcos), who recently returned from injury, finished with 10 points off the bench.

Texas Lutheran trailed for a majority of Saturday evening's contest, trailing by as many as 14 points. Texas Lutheran trailed the Mountaineers 38-28 at halftime, but would respond by outscoring the Mountaineers 26-15 in the third quarter on 58.8% shooting to take a one-point lead into the final period.

The Mountaineers would mount a comeback in the fourth, making timely threes to outscore the Bulldogs 19-16 to come from behind to win 72-70 on Saturday.
