Texas Lutheran Routs Austin College, 71-42

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs tallied a convincing 71-42 win over the visiting Austin College 'Roos in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action Saturday evening at Memorial Gymnasium. With the victory, Texas Lutheran is now 10-8 overall and 6-4 in conference action, while Austin College falls to 1-17 overall and 0-9 in league play.

Texas Lutheran led 15-13 after one, then used a 17-7 run over the course of the second quarter to take a 32-20 lead into halftime. Texas Lutheran turned up the defense in the second quarter, holding the 'Roos to just seven points in the period. Kailee Mulkey (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) and Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) led Texas Lutheran through the second quarter run, combining for 13 of the squad's 17 points in the quarter.

Mulkey led the Bulldogs with nine points in the opening half, while Moehrig and Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) added six points each.

Austin College would not get within single digits and Texas Lutheran would lead by as many as 30 points in the second half.

In the victory, Mulkey scored a game-high 11 points to go with a game-best seven rebounds. She was 3-of-8 from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line. Lauren Sansano and Davi'Yanna Jones (San Antonio/Stevens) finished with eight points each, including Jones going a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. 

For the second game in a row, every active player scored at least two points for the Bulldogs. For the game, Texas Lutheran was 23-of-50 from the field (46%) and 20-of-26 from the foul line (76.9%), while holding Austin College to 28.8% from the floor. Texas Lutheran, who entered Saturday's contest first in the SCAC in opposing field percentage (33.9%), free throw percentage (70%), and scoring defense (57.5 PPG) continued to thrive in those statistical categories while owning a 43-26 advantage on the boards.

The win marks TLU's sixth consecutive win over Austin College dating back to 2021.
