Bulldogs Use Balanced Attack to Defeat Centenary, 64-50

SEGUIN, Texas -- Kailee Mulkey (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) scored 16 points to lead Texas Lutheran to a 64-50 victory over Centenary Saturday afternoon.

Texas Lutheran improved to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in SCAC play heading into their Christmas break. Centenary fell to 0-13 (0-4 SCAC).

Mulkey led the Bulldogs with 16 points on 6-10 shooting and freshman Brianna Wilson (Austin/Cotulla) had a coming out party posting career-highs of eight points, seven rebounds, and a team-high four blocks. Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) was 4-of-9 from the field to add nine points along with team-highs of three assists and three steals. Kayla Presley (Kyle/San Marcos) added seven points while Sarahi Jones (Los Fresnos/Los Fresnos) tallied in six points, three blocks, and three assists while collecting a team-high nine rebounds. 

The first quarter was a tight one that saw three lead changes and three ties, but Texas Lutheran would carry an 18-16 lead into the break. 

The Bulldogs would limit the Ladies of Centenary College to eight points in the second quarter and increase their lead by two over the course of the period to take a 28-24 lead into halftime. Wilson was a force in the first half scoring four points and blocking four shots in the half.

The Bulldogs would outscore the Ladies 17-15 in the third quarter behind seven points from Mulkey before stretching out to their biggest lead of the night in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

TLU committed just eight turnovers while forcing 15 - which they turned into 14 points. The Bulldogs outscored Centenary 30-18 in the paint. 12 different Bulldogs scored on the afternoon in the Bulldogs multi-faceted attack including 27 from the bench led by Wilson and Presley.

Texas Lutheran enjoys a near two-week Christmas break before traveling to Austin, Texas, for a non-conference rematch with Concordia on December 30. Tip-off is currently set for 5:30 PM. All streaming and stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
