Texas Lutheran Falls to Dallas, 72-67

IRVING, Texas -- A fourth quarter surge by the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs (4-4, 0-1 SCAC) came up short as the Bulldogs fell 72-67 to Dallas (3-3, 1-0 SCAC) on the road Friday night.

Texas Lutheran cut a 17-point second half Crusaders lead down to a single point with 5:11 remaining, but Dallas hung on for the win.

Coming into the game, TLU was on a four-game winning streak and their previous six matchups with the Crusaders dating back to 2018.

Senior Taylor Skurka (New Braunfels/Steele) led the Bulldogs in scoring with 13 points and would register her first collegiate double-double with 12 rebounds - each career-highs for the fifth-year senior. Freshman Sarahi Jones (Los Fresnos/Los Fresnos) would add a double-double of her own with 10 points and 10 rebounds - the first double-double of her young career.

Texas Lutheran led 20-19 after the first quarter behind key efforts from Skurka and Davi'Yanna Jones (San Antonio/Stevens), but the Crusaders were able to limit the Bulldogs to 11 points in the second quarter to take a 40-31 lead into halftime. Dallas outscored the Bulldogs 21-11 on 50% shooting in the second quarter.

A 10-2 run to open the second half put Dallas up 17 points, and the Crusaders led by four, 52-48, heading into the fourth quarter.

The Crusaders would extend their lead by as many as seven points in the fourth. The Bulldogs would close the margin to one point with 5:11 remaining but were never able to overtake the Crusaders on their home floor.
