Bulldogs Drop Season Opener to 18th-Ranked Hardin-Simmons, 66-41

ABILENE, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran women's basketball team held their own early, leading through one quarter, before ultimately falling to the 18th-ranked Cowgirls of Hardin-Simmons 66-41 Friday night at the Mabee Complex in Abilene.

Freshman Davi'Yanna Jones (San Antonio/Stevens) finished with eight points and seven rebounds to lead the Bulldogs. Hannah Gallegos (San Antonio/Harlan) added seven points and a team-high two assists.

Six points from freshman Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) guided Texas Lutheran to a 14-12 lead through the opening quarter of the season, but the Bulldogs would struggle from the field for the remainder of the night.

The Bulldogs struggled from the field shooting 22.1% from the field and 20% from beyond the arc in comparison to Hardin-Simmons's 38% mark and 30.8% shooting from three. The Bulldogs shooting woes ultimately decided the game with the Bulldogs while trailing minimally in other decisive categories. Hardin-Simmons dominated the boards - finishing with a 53-43 advantage over the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs look to bounce back tomorrow in non-conference action against the War Hawks of McMurry University at 1 PM at Kimbrell Arena in Abilene. All streaming and stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
