SEGUIN, TX -- Jayla Santa Maria (Edinburg/Edinburg) scored 16 points as Texas Lutheran rolled in a 84-41 rout of Concordia University (TX) Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasium - halting their losing streak at four games.
Santa Maria made a career-high four three pointers to lead the Bulldogs.
Morgan Rodriguez (New Braunfels/Canyon) tallied 14 points and collected five rebounds while Kailey Lacy (Pflugerville/Hendrickson) joined her in double-digits with 10 points on three-of-four shooting.
Texas Lutheran moved to 3-4 on the season while Concordia (TX) fell to 2-2 with the loss.
After trailing by three in the first two minutes, the Bulldogs responded with a 12-4 run capped off by a Sydney Shaw (Lockhart/Lockhart) mid-range jumper that placed Texas Lutheran ahead 14-9 entering the first media timeout.
The Bulldogs would lead by as many as 10 points as they would take a 22-14 lead at the end of the first frame.
The Bulldogs offense heated up in the second quarter, as they shot 70 percent and outscored Concordia (TX) 21-7 - led by 8 points from Santa Maria. The Bulldogs defense would force 6 turnovers and hold the Tornados to 23.1% shooting in the second quarter as they went into the break with a 43-21 lead.
The Bulldogs would cruise the rest of the way to a 84-41 win.
The Bulldogs enjoyed their best shooting performance of the season shooting 50.9 percent as a team and 68.4 percent from deep. The Texas Lutheran bench erupted for 61 points including a career-high eight points from freshman Chaeli Criddle (Canyon Lake/FEAST). Sophomore Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) led the Bulldogs with 7 rebounds and Juliana Tapia (San Antonio/O'Connor) led with 3 assists.
