Texas Lutheran Comes Up Short in 58-56 Loss to Sul Ross

SEGUIN, TX -- Kailey Lacy (Pflugerville/Hendrickson) scored 12 points off the bench and Morgan Rodriguez (New Braunfels/Canyon) added 10 points to lead the Bulldogs, but Texas Lutheran women's basketball fell 58-56 to the visiting Sul Ross State Lobos on Monday at Memorial Gymnasium.

Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) chipped in with 8 points and a team-high 6 rebounds while Jovanna Adame (Brownsville/Los Fresnos) scored a career-high 7 points.

The contest was close throughout featuring 26 lead changes and 22 ties. Neither team led by more than five points throughout.

The Bulldogs outshot the Lobos shooting 47.7% to the Lobos 34.4% but were plagued by turnovers as Texas Lutheran turned the ball over 34 times resulting in 23 points for Sul Ross. The Bulldogs also left points at the free throw line shooting 57.9% from the free throw line in comparison to the Lobos 75% performance from the charity stripe.

A four-point opening quarter from Kailee Mulkey (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) paced the Bulldogs as the two teams were tied 12-all after the first quarter. The trio of Lacy, Adame, and Sydney Shaw (Lockhart/Lockhart) aided the Bulldogs in the second quarter as they were able to take a 2-point, 28-26 lead into halftime. The Lobos trailed by two in a half in which they shot 26.5% from the field.

The Lobos improved as the night continued shooting 44% in the second half to take a tie the game entering the fourth quarter and ultimately hold off a late Bulldogs comeback in the fourth. A Kailee Mulkey fast break layup courtesy of a steal from Jayla Santa Maria (Edinburg/Edinburg) with 25 seconds remaining brought the Bulldogs within one, but the Bulldogs 12 fourth quarter turnovers proved to be too much thwarting their comeback attempt.

The Bulldogs travel to San Antonio to face Division-I University of the Incarnate Word in an exhibition on Wednesday, Nov. 17th. Tip-off is set for 6 PM at the McDermott Center. All streaming and stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
