TLU's Hroch, Santa Maria garner SCAC Women's Basketball honors

 
SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Women's Basketball players Abby Hroch and Jayla Santa Maria each picked up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference honors Thursday with the release of the SCAC's All-Conference teams.
 
Hroch, a senior post from Port Lavaca, Texas, was named to the All-SCAC Second Team.
 
Santa Maria, a shooting guard from Edinburg, Texas, received All-SCAC Honorable Mention recognition.
 
Hroch was named to the All-SCAC Second Team for a second time in her career. In her six games played in the abbreviated 2020-21 season, Hroch averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds. She shot 46.8 percent from the field and 68.0 percent from the foul line.
 
Heading into Saturday's SCAC semifinal match at Colorado College, Hroch has scored 767 points and pulled down 536 rebounds in her four years with the Bulldogs. For her career, she is a 48.2 percent shooter from the field.
 
Santa Maria claimed an SCAC playing award for the first time. After missing most of last season with an injury, Santa Maria played in all eight TLU regular-season games this season and averaged a career-best 10.6 points and 5.1 rebounds.
 
Santa Maria averaged 30.4 minutes per game and made 38.5 percent of her total field goal attempts. She led TLU in free throws made (21) and tied for the team lead in free throws attempted (28). She also was second on the team in assists, with 17, and she tied for the team lead in steals, with 10.
 
The Bulldogs travel to Colorado Springs for Saturday's SCAC semifinal contest of the SCAC Tournament. TLU (5-3) is the No. 3 seed. Colorado College (6-2) is the No. 2 seed.
