Bulldogs fall to Howard Payne in home-opener in Memorial Gymnasium

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Women's Basketball lost its home-opener 70-63 to Howard Payne Friday evening at TLU's Memorial Gymnasium.

TLU led by nine early in the game, but HPU opened up a 15-point lead late in the third quarter to post the non-conference win.

After playing a pair of exhibitions, HPU won its first official contest of the 2019-20 season.

TLU dropped to 0-3 with the loss.

Anastasia Willis scored 14 and had seven rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.

Payge Grable contributed 13 points, three assists and two rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets made 12 three-pointers and shot 44.6 percent from the field for the game.

TLU shot 35.3 percent overall from the floor and just 16.7 percent from the arc (5-for-30).

TLU point guard Tara Molina scored 14 points and had six assists, five steals, and five rebounds.

Kasey Hairell collected eight rebounds and scored seven points for the Bulldogs.

TLU plays its next game next Friday at home. The Bulldogs face McMurry at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Gymnasium.
