TLU Tops Austin College, 2-1

SHERMAN, Texas -- No. 9 Texas Lutheran (19-1, 11-1 SCAC) opened their weekend with a 2-1 win over Austin College Friday night in their series opener in Sherman.
It was a grind-it-out win for the top-10 squad, plating just two runs for one of its lowest single-game run totals this season. Taylor Vannett (Kingwood/Kingwood) played a role in both runs scored, driving in one and scoring the other to push the Bulldogs past the 'Roos.
Despite being no-hit for three innings, it was TLU who struck first following a leadoff single and a stolen base from Annie Kay (Sinton/Sinton), Taylor Vannett struck an RBI single to drive in Kay to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. A throwing error on the Austin College catcher on a Riley Futrell (Florence/Florence) stolen base allowed Vannett to race home to score the final run of the game for the Bulldogs in the fourth.
Austin College scored their only run of the game on a TLU throwing error in the sixth.
Fifth-year senior Amanda White (Lockhart/Lockhart) collected her ninth win of the season in the circle, going 6.1 innings and striking out five batters, giving up one run (unearned) on five hits.
Junior Ainsley Davis (Rockwall/Jesuit (OR)) finished the job, entering for the final two outs and allowing no hits, runs, or walks.
TLU was led at the plate by a 2-for-3 showing from Vannett with an RBI.
Texas Lutheran returns to the field Saturday afternoon in Sherman for a doubleheader with the 'Roos to wrap the series at Sherman High School. First pitch is set for 12 and 2 PM. All streaming and live stats links available on tlubulldogs.com.
