Shutouts Extend No. 14 Texas Lutheran's Win Streak to 11

SEGUIN, Texas -- No. 14 Texas Lutheran pushed its season-opening win streak to 11 games on Sunday with a pair of shutouts of Carnegie Mellon in Seguin, outscoring the visiting Tartans 14-0 while allowing just five hits across 12.0 innings of play.

TLU (11-0, 5-0 SCAC) saw its pitching staff strikeout eight batters and allow just 10 base runners between the two games, blanking the Tartans 9-0 in game one before earning a 5-0 win in game two. Amanda White (Lockhart/Lockhart) tossed a one-hit complete game shutout in game one before Katelyn Howard (Waller/Hempstead) followed with a complete game shutout of her own.

The Bulldogs have now recorded eight shutouts through their first 11 games of 2025, outscoring their opponents 85-10 with a 0.61 team ERA.

The TLU lineup supported a terrific start by senior right-hander Amanda White Sunday evening, downing Carnegie Mellon 9-0 in five innings. White struck out four batters, tossing five scoreless innings of one-hit ball while walking one.

Texas Lutheran opened the scoring in the first inning as a bunt single from Faith Hernandez (Dinuba, CA/Dinuba) plated Caelee Clark (Montgomery/Lake Creek) before Annie Kay (Sinton/Sinton) would score on a Carnegie Mellon throwing error. A Hernandez two-RBI single followed by an RBI single from Harleigh Russell (Fort Worth/Boswell) pushed the lead to 5-0.

Missy Muras (La Grange/La Grange) continued her stellar start to the season with a two-run single to start the scoring in the fourth. TLU plated the final two runs of the game in the fourth via a bases loaded walk to Russell and an RBI single by Taylor Vannett (Kingwood/Kingwood).

Annie Kay went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored while Faith Hernandez enjoyed a 2-for-3 evening of her own with three RBIs.

Texas Lutheran struck early again in game two, plating three runs in the first. Faith Hernandez doubled to left center with two outs to score Annie Kay. Mia Landry (Cypress/Bridgeland) tripled to center field to add two more runs and make it 3-0 Bulldogs through one inning.

Katelyn Howard scattered four hits across seven shutout innings on Sunday, striking out four Tartans to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Serena Gonzalez (Corpus Christi/Foy H. Moody) provided insurance with an infield RBI single in the third and Chesley Swisher (Cypress/Bridgeland) scored the final run of the night on a Carnegie Mellon error in the sixth.

Tavery Ortiz (Texas City/Texas City) went 2-for-2 with a walk in the win while Landry was 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.

The Bulldogs return to SCAC play this weekend as they travel to Shreveport to face Centenary College in a three-game series starting on Friday, March 7. First pitch of Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 4 PM. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
