Five Bulldogs Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran's Kylee Jack (Richwood/Brazoswood), Annie Kay (Sinton/Sinton), Linzee Leal (Corpus Christi/Mary Carroll), Sydney Ouellette (Corpus Christi/Gregory-Portland), and Ashlyn Strother (Seabrook/Clear Falls) have all been named Academic All-District selections, the College Sports Communicators (CSC), formerly known as CoSIDA, announced on Tuesday.

The Bulldog quintet now advances to the CSC Academic All-American ballot, with first-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America honorees announced on June 18.

The five selections matches the 2021 squad - that also featured Ouellette and Strother - for the most in program history.

Jack earned All-SCAC honors for the first time in her career, earning First Team All-SCAC and NFCA All-West Region second team honors in 2024 as the junior utility led the SCAC in home runs (7) and finished second in the SCAC in RBIs (39) and fifth in batting average (.423). Jack is a Kinesiology & Psychology double major.

Annie Kay earns All-District honors for the first time in her career following a breakout sophomore season that also saw her named All-SCAC First Team and NFCA All-West Region Second Team. Kay finished second on the team in runs scored (33) and third in stolen bases (37) and hits (37). Kay is a Business major.

Leal repeats as a CSC Academic All-District honoree as the All-SCAC First Team shortstop ranked second on the club with 39 stolen bases and fourth on the team with 25 runs scored in 44 games for the Bulldogs. Leal is a Kinesiology major with a focus in Sports Management.

Ouellette earns Academic All-District honors for the fourth time in her career as the right-hander went 8-3 in the circle, posting a 2.13 ERA and three shutouts. In 79 innings, she racked up 25 strikeouts. Ouellette, who sports a perfect 4.0 GPA, is majoring in Business Administration with an Accounting focus - becoming the first two-time SCAC Softball Elite 19 winner in conference history.

Strother earned SCAC Pitcher of the Year honors for a record fourth consecutive season as the right-hander went 19-1 in the circle and posted a 0.95 ERA and eight shutouts - leading the conference in wins, ERA, strikeouts, and shutouts. Her 0.95 ERA ranks seventh nationally and she ranks eighth nationally in shutouts. In 118.1 innings, she racked up 131 strikeouts. Another repeat Academic All-District honoree, Strother is majoring in Business Administration with an Accounting focus.

To qualify for the honor, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50, be a sophomore academically and have a year-in-residence at their current school and have appeared in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.

The 2023-24 Academic All-District® Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom.
