Five Bulldogs Named All-Region

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Softball had five student athletes named to the NFCA All-Region X (West) team, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced the honors Friday.

Collecting First Team honors was senior pitcher Ashlyn Strother (Seabrook/Clear Falls) and freshman designated player Serena Gonzalez (Corpus Christi/Foy H. Moody). Freshman second baseman Caelee Clark (Montgomery/Lake Creek) and sophomore shortstop Linzee Leal (Corpus Christi/Mary Carroll) were both named Second Team All-Region while junior outfielder Madison Johnson (Round Rock/Round Rock) was named Third Team All-Region.

Overall, this marks the ninth time in ten seasons that TLU has had at least four nominees selected.

The awards honor student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with selection to one of three teams. NFCA member head coaches nominate and then vote for the winners in their respective region.All honorees move forward to be considered for selection for the three NFCA Division III All-America squads, which will be announced May 31 online and on-site at the NCAA Division III Finals banquet in Marshall, Texas.

For clarification, position players must play 50% of a team's total games (60% of nominee's total games at the nominated position). Pitchers must accumulate 100 innings pitched or 30% of a team's total innings pitched throughout the regular season.
