Bulldogs Shutout Southwestern, 7-0, to Open Three-Game Series

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- The No. 5 Texas Lutheran softball team opened their three-game series with the Southwestern Pirates with a 7-0 shutout win at Taylor-Sanders Softball Field in Georgetown. The Bulldogs improved to 21-4.

The TLU offense registered seven runs on 15 hits with four different Bulldogs tallying an RBI. The win marked Texas Lutheran's 48th consecutive conference victory - which is currently the third longest streak in program history. The Bulldogs are four games from the program record of 52 consecutive conference wins having not lost a conference game from 2016-2019.

Ashlyn Strother's (Seabrook/Clear Falls) phenomenal run in the circle continued, tossing her seventh complete game of the season - striking out 15 Pirates batters in the process. Strother would allow two hits and a walk in her fourth complete game shutout of the season. With the win, Strother moved to a SCAC-leading 11-0.

After two innings that saw the TLU offense lie dormant, the Bulldogs would strike first in the third inning scoring their first run courtesy of an RBI single from Casey Martin (Pearland/Pearland). This would begin an onslaught in which the Bulldogs would score in four consecutive innings.

An infield single from Sarah Metzer (Sugar Land/Dulles) scored Chassety Raines (Spring/Klein Collins) to make it 2-0 after four innings. After Madison Johnson (Round Rock/Round Rock) stole home, Faith Hernandez (Dinuba, Calif./Dinuba) would hit a two-run home run - the first of her collegiate career - to extend the Bulldogs lead to 5-0 after five innings.

RBI singles from Kelly Jurden (Brenham/Brenham) and Casey Martin would tack on two more runs in the sixth inning.

The win marks TLU's third consecutive shutout and the eleventh of the season.

The Bulldogs close their weekend with a Saturday doubleheader against the Pirates at Taylor-Sanders Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM and 3 PM. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
