Bulldogs Shutout Schreiner, 7-0, to Complete Series Sweep

KERRVILLE, Texas -- The No.1 Texas Lutheran softball team completed the series sweep over Schreiner with a 7-0 shutout win on Sunday at Mountaineer Softball Field to improve to 14-3 on the season.

The TLU offense registered seven runs on nine hits with five different Bulldogs tallying an RBI. The win marked Texas Lutheran's 44th consecutive conference victory, having not lost a conference game since 2019. The win also mark's Texas Lutheran's 45th consecutive conference series victory, having not lost a conference series since joining the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) in 2014.

Sophomore Ashlyn Strother (Seabrook/Clear Falls) was exceptional in the circle for the Bulldogs, going five shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk to go with 10 strikeouts - reaching double-digit strikeouts for the third consecutive outing.

TLU struck first in the first inning, putting three runs on the board courtesy of a 2 RBI double from Chassety Raines (Spring/Klein Collins) and a sacrifice fly from Laura Hernandez (Missouri City/Ridge Point). The Bulldogs began the game with three consecutive hitters reaching base with Raines extending her hitting streak to four games.

The Bulldogs would add their fourth run in the fourth as Casey Martin (Pearland/Pearland) scored Kayla Guerra (Pearland/Pearland) on a fielder's choice.

An RBI single from Brandalyn Dee (Cibolo/Steele) in the sixth extended the Bulldogs lead to 5-0.

Sarah Metzer (Sugar Land/Dulles) and Dee tacked on two runs in the seventh off a bases loaded walk and sacrifice fly, respectively. Sophomore Sydney Ouellette (Corpus Christi/Gregory-Portland) pitched the final two innings for TLU, striking out two, and allowing two hits and two walks. 

The win marks TLU's seventh shutout of the season and third of the weekend - holding the Mountaineers scoreless for the duration of the series.

The team returns to Ed Kruse Stadium on Monday, March 14, for a doubleheader with the Yellowjackets of LeTourneau University. First pitch is scheduled for 2 PM and 4 PM. All streaming and stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
