Kelly Jurden named SCAC Softball Hitter of the Week for third time this year

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran outfielder Kelly Jurden (Brenham/Brenham) has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Hitter of the Week for a third time this season.
 
Juren, a redshirt junior, reached base in all seven times she came to the plate during a two-game series against the University of St. Thomas.
 
Jurden was 2-for-2 in the first game and 1-for-1 in the second game in a two-game sweep of the Celts.
 
Jurden set a new school record for stolen bases in a game, with five, in the early game. She had the two hits and walked twice and scored three runs in the opener.
 
In the late game, Jurden had a single, a run scored, and two more stolen bases - giving her seven stolen bases in the doubleheader.
 
Jurden now has 47 steals this year with 160 career steals. She raised her season average to .500 in 2021.
 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman outfielder Mackenzie Cox of Centenary led the Ladies at the plate last week, going 8-for-11 (.727) with six stolen bases, two doubles, two runs scored and a .909 slugging percentage. Senior outfielder of Emily Vaclavik of Trinity was an integral part of the Tigers' weekend sweep of Dallas last weekend, hitting .750 in the series with the Crusaders and scoring six runs on seven hits. For the week, the senior outfielder/shortstop posted a line of .692/.714/.769 over four outings, two of which ended via run-rule in the fifth inning.
