TLU's Ashlyn Strother named SCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for second time in 2021

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran right-hander Ashlyn Strother, a second-year freshman from Seabrook, Texas, has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Monday, March 22 through Sunday, March 28.

For Strother, the Pitcher of the Week award is the third of her career. She claimed the award once during the shortened 2020 season. Strother has two pitching awards already this year.

Last week, Strother struck out 21 batters in 11 innings of work and recorded a pair of wins. She posted a one-hit shutout with eight strikeouts against Texas A&M-San Antonio and then tossed a two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts against Austin College.

 

Strother also appeared in relief in the final game of the Austin series and struck out all three batters she faced.

 

Strother averaged 13.36 Ks per seven innings for the week and 15.17 Ks per seven innings in conference action.

 

Last night in San Antonio, Strother took a perfect game into the sixth inning and finished with a two-hit shutout against the Trinity Tigers.

 

For the year, Strother is 7-1 with a 1.26 ERA. She has struck out 60 batters in 50 innings. In her TLU career, she is 15-1 with a 1.08 ERA.  

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Lindsey Longuet of St. Thomas went 1-1 in the circle for the Celts against Trinity last week, pitching a complete game shutout with five strikeouts in the opener. Senior Allie Holbrook of Trinity hurled a complete-game victory in the Tigers' final matchup at St. Thomas last weekend. She scattered eight hits across her seven innings with a trio of strikeouts.
