Hudgeons' career day sends No. 4 Bulldogs to 18-1 road win over Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas -- Bailey Hudgeons belted a first-inning grand slam and drove in a career-best six runs as No. 4-ranked Texas Lutheran completed a three-game conference series sweep of Austin College with an 18-1 win Saturday.

At Sherman's Old Settlers Park, Hudgeons drove in six with her grand slam and a pair of sacrifice flies. Hudgeons is a second-year freshman from Dripping Springs (Dripping Springs).

TLU produced 18 runs on 16 hits and held the Kangaroos to two hits and one run.

The Bulldogs out-scored Austin College 37-5 in the three games.

TLU moved its overall record to 14-4 and its conference mark to 6-0. The Bulldogs are the six-time defending champions of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. TLU won the 2019 NCAA Division III National Championship.

Chassety Raines, the Most Outstanding Player of that DIII National Championship, pitched three innings in the circle to post her second victory of the season. She struck out two and allowed an unearned run. She did not walk a batter.

Raines also did some damage at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs scored and three driven home. Raines drove in runs with a hit-by-pitch, a walk, and a sacrifice fly.

Kayla Oliveira hit a bases-clearing, three-run double in the third, and Rebecca Snow doubled home two runs in the second.

McKay Bloxham and Haley Padilla each scored three times, and Skylar Ouellette produced three hits.

The Bulldogs continues SCAC play this Tuesday with a road doubleheader at Trinity University. The games are set for 5 and 7 p.m. starts on the Trinity campus. No visiting fans are allowed at Trinity home athletics events.
