Texas Lutheran Softball splits road doubleheader at UH-Victoria

VICTORIA, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Softball registered a 7-5 loss and an 8-0 five-inning victory Tuesday afternoon on the road against the University of Houston at Victoria.
 
TLU's overall record stands at 9-4 after the two non-conference games. UHV, out of the NAIA, is 4-10.
 
In game one, TLU jumped out to a 4-0 lead after five innings, but the Jaguars put up five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead, 5-4.
 
The Jaguars scored two more runs in the sixth.
 
TLU scored a run in the seventh and had the go-ahead run at the plate, but UHV stopped the Bulldogs' scoring threat to secure the win.
 
In game two, the Bulldogs scored a run in the first and then four runs in the third.
 
Haley Padilla hit a two-RBI single in the third, and TLU scored a pair of runs on errors.
 
TLU added a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to put the run-rule in play.
 
Sydney Ouellette kept UHV scoreless in the fifth and completed the three-hit shutout. She improved to 4-2 on the year.
 
Ouellette struck out one, walked one, and surrendered just three singles.
 
Rebecca Snow went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Casey Martin was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
 
Padilla produced two hits and scored twice, and Chassety Raines and Laura Hernandez each had two hits. Hernandez drove in a run.
 
In the early game, Kelly Jurden, Martin, Snow and McKay Bloxham each had two hits. Bloxham drove in a pair of runs. Martin had two steals.
 
The Bulldogs return to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play Friday and Saturday with a three-game series in Sherman, Texas against Austin College. The first game of Friday's doubleheader starts at 6 p.m. Saturday's single game will start at 11 a.m.
