Bulldogs, Concordia Texas split doubleheader in Seguin

SEGUIN, Texas -- Wednesday afternoon at Ed Kruse Stadium (Morck Softball Field), second-ranked Texas Lutheran Softball split a non-conference doubleheader with Concordia Texas. The Tornados took the first game 1-0, and TLU rebounded in the late game for a 7-5 victory.
 
TLU's overall record stands at 5-3. Concordia Texas is 6-6.
 
The Tornados won the first game behind a six-hit shutout from left-hander Bailey Tisdale.

TLU threatened in the seventh with a lead-off single from Skylar Ouellette. After Ouellette stole second and was lifted for a pinch hitter, Casey Martin hit a hard line drive to second for the final out of the game.

Tisdale improved to 3-3 with the win. Sydney Ouellette took the loss. She fell to 2-2.

Ashlyn Strother came into the game in relief and allowed just one hit in 4-2/3 innings of work. She struck out three and did not walk a batter.

Kelly Jurden and Skylar Ouellette each had two hits for the Bulldogs in the early game.

Kelse Lowke scored the lone run of the game on a squeeze bunt from Erica Riley in the third inning.

TLU out-hit Concordia 6-5. TLU left four runners on base. CTX left three.

Riley had a pair of hits in the first game.

In game two, TLU scored three unearned runs in the first inning with the help of two Concordia errors. Haley Padilla recorded the first Bulldog RBI with a sacrifice fly in the first. Sarah Metzer drove in the third run of the inning with a single to left.
 
Skylar Ouellette made it 4-0 in the bottom of the third with a solo home run to left field.
 
After appearing in relief in the game, Strother started the second contest and went five shutout innings. She struck out four and walked one. Strother improved to 3-0.
 
Rebecca Snow was 3-for-3 in the second game with a run scored. Jurden went 2-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI, and four stolen bases.
 
TLU took advantage of six Concordia errors.
 
The Tornados rallied for two games in the sixth and three runs in the seventh to make it interesting. The Tornados had the go-ahead run come to the plate in the seventh.
 
The Bulldogs return to Ed Kruse Stadium on Friday for the start of a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series with Southwestern. Friday's single game starts at 7 p.m., and Saturday's doubleheader begins at noon. All three games will have free webcasts and live stats on tlubulldogs.com.
 
No spectators are allowed at Ed Kruse Stadium for the three-game series.
