Angel Miguel Hernandez Secures Individual Title at SU Showdown

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran men's and women's cross country competed in the SU Showdown hosted by Southwestern University on Saturday, highlighted by an individual victory from freshman Angel Miguel Hernandez (Luling/Luling).

Women's cross country kicked things off with a fifth place finish in the 6K. Emma Etzler (Hallettsville/Hallettsville) was the first Bulldog to cross the line for the second consecutive race with her first career top ten finish, finishing tenth overall with a time of 25:21.53. Gianna Kennedy (El Paso/El Paso) fought her way into the top 20 with an 18th place finish clocking a time of 26:24.62. Mackenzie Combs (New Braunfels/Canyon) and Magdalyn Brown (San Antonio/Madison) joined Etzler and Kennedy in the top 25 of the 50+ runner field with times of 26:38.60 and 26:40.83 respectively.

Rounding out the scorers for TLU was Alexis Albert (Falls City/Falls City) who finished 29th overall with a time of 27:43.10.

On the men's side, freshman Angel Miguel Hernandez made a statement Saturday in the 8K, winning the individual title in just his second collegiate race in a narrow finish with a time of 26:40.89. The individual win marks the first individual win for TLU men's cross country since Caleb Calderon won the 2018 Bulldog Invitational. The time marks the fourth fastest 8K in program history and the fastest time in program history for a freshman.

Wesley Holub (Wallis/Brazos) also ran an impressive race, earning a sixth place finish. Holub narrowly missed also earning a spot in the TLU cross country record book with a time of 28:17.26.

Rounding out the scorers for the Bulldogs was Lucas Falcon (Victoria/Victoria East), Gabriel Ceballos (San Antonio/Smithson Valley), and Isaiah Arriaga (Sugar Land/Dulles) who all finished in the top 35 of the 70+ runner race. Overall, the Bulldogs earned a third place finish in the team race with host Southwestern winning the overall team race for the men.
