Texas Lutheran Places 5th in SCAC Championships

LIVE OAK, TX -- Texas Lutheran's cross country programs traveled to Live Oak City Park in Live Oak, Texas to compete in the 2021 SCAC Championships hosted by Trinity University on Saturday morning. 

Women's Cross Country finished in 4th with 109 points.

On the men's side, Texas Lutheran posted a 5th place finish with 159 points.

WOMEN'S RECAP

Kristin Lucero (San Antonio/Brennan) was the first finisher for the Bulldogs for the third straight meet, crossing the finish line in 16th place. The freshman ran the 5K course in 24:04.0. She was joined in the Top-25 by sophomore Caeli Taylor (Tilden/McMullen County), who finished 24th and clocked in at 24:51.1.

Mackenzie Payne (Celina/Frisco Heritage) was the third Bulldog to cross the finish line, just missing the Top-25, taking 26th (24:55.4). Gianna Kennedy (El Paso/El Paso) posted a 26:24.7 to finish 34th and Jackie Garcia (San Antonio/Cornerstone Christian) completed the course in 27:44.3 to place 39th as TLU's final scorer.

MEN'S RECAP

Austin Szewczyk (Round Rock/Cedar Ridge) led the Bulldogs in the 8K race, posting a 35th place finish with a time of 28:57.4. EJ Tongee (Richmond/Fulshear) was the second finisher across the line in 38th, running a 29:01.4.

Koby Green (San Antonio/Clark) tabbed a time of 29:45.5 that placed him in 44th and was followed close behind by Ryan Hernandez's (Dallas/Uplift Peak Preparatory) 45th place finish (30:25.5) and Johari Dramiga's (San Antonio/East Central) 47th place finish (29:56.4).

This concludes the fall season for Men's Cross Country meanwhile Texas Lutheran Women's Cross Country will send three runners: Lucero, Taylor and Payne, to the NCAA West Regional Championships in Claremont, California that will be hosted by Pomona College.
