Bulldogs fifth at 2020-21 SCAC Championships

IRVING, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Women's and Men's Cross Country teams each posted fifth-place finishes Saturday at the 2020-21 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships at the University of Dallas.
 
The TLU Women scored 128 points. Trinity won the championship with 25 points. The Tigers were followed by Colorado College (30), St. Thomas (106), Southwestern (123), TLU and Dallas (141). Austin College and Schreiner competed in the women's championship but did not have enough runners to qualify for team results.
 
The TLU Men scored 138 points. Colorado College won the championship with 26 points. CC was followed by Trinity (37), Austin College (90), Southwestern (124), TLU, Dallas (144), and Schreiner (173). Centenary and St. Thomas did not run with the full complement of runners.
 
First-year runner Caeli Taylor led the Bulldogs in the women's race with a finish of 16th. Taylor completed the 6K course with a time of 23 minutes, 37.50 seconds.
 
Another first-year runner, Abraham Silva, led the TLU Men with a finish of 20th and a time of 28:40.60 on the 8K course.
 
"I'm happy with how we got in there and competed," said Darlene Holland, TLU's head coach for women's and men's cross country. " We got in there and raced. We were competitive and ran tough. It was a hilly, tactical course, and we did the best we could on this day."
 
"Everyone was extremely happy to just be able to compete in a conference championship. It was a lot of training for one big race, but it bodes well as he head into track right after this. We had two freshmen just outside of All-Conference awards, one for the men and one for the women. That was fantastic."
