SCAC Records Fall, Bulldogs Win Four Events to Wrap SCAC Championships
SEGUIN, Texas -- Senior pole vaulter Ezra Acero (San Antonio/Harlan) and the TLU relay squad once again rewrote the SCAC record books and Texas Lutheran climbed up the national leaderboard in multiple events as the Texas Lutheran men's track and field team wrapped the 2025 SCAC Championships on Sunday. In total, Texas Lutheran had 10 scorers on the meet's final day as the Bulldogs finished fourth with 87.5 points.
Acero accomplished what he came to do on Sunday as he completed his three-peat as the SCAC champion in the pole vault with a mark of 4.84m (15-10.50), blowing past his record of 4.65m that he set at the 2024 SCAC Championships.
The Texas Lutheran 4x400m relay team comprised of Gavino Ramirez (Alice/Alice), Eden Perez, Braylen Brown, and Caden Keller (McAllen/McAllen), who entered the weekend ranked number 13 in Division-III, further solidified their spot as a potential national qualifying group as the freshman quartet won the 4x400m relay with a new SCAC record time of 3:14.68. The season-best time currently ranks 17th nationally.
Brown continued to make his presence felt on Sunday adding another SCAC record breaking performance in the 400m dash with a winning time of 47.24 seconds. The time moves the freshman into 11th place nationally.
After finishing second and third over his first two years, Rickey Franks (Rockport/Rockport-Fulton) is finally a SCAC champion after running a time of 53.98 seconds to win the 400m hurdles. With the time, Franks moved into 28th nationally in the event and broke his own program record that previously sat at 54.94 seconds.
The 4x100m relay team comprised of Eden Perez, Wyatt Wilson (New Braunfels/New Braunfels), Franks, and Weston Guzman (McAllen/McAllen) finished fourth at 41.91 seconds.
Hezekiah McDow added three points after clocking in at 21.88 seconds in the 200m dash while Weston Guzman added four points with a fifth place finish in the 100m dash with a time of 10.59 seconds.

The Bulldogs will compete intermittently over the course of the next month as they prepare for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio, May 22-25, starting with the Trinity Last Chance meet on Sunday, May 11.
