Acero Wins Javelin, Brown Wins 400m at War Hawk Classic

ABILENE, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran track and field team split up this weekend with a majority of the squad competing in the 2025 War Hawk Classic hosted by McMurry University over the course of two days in Abilene.

The meet was highlighted by two event wins by the Bulldogs. 

Freshman Braylen Brown won the 400m dash with a time of 47.84 seconds, a time that ranks 17th nationally as of Sunday morning. Brown also finished eighth overall and fourth amongst Division-III sprinters in the 200m dash with a time of 21.56 seconds, a time that moves the freshman into the top 40 nationally.

Senior Ezra Acero (San Antonio/Harlan) won the javelin throw with a mark of 54.59m (179' 1") in addition to his second place finish in the pole vault at 4.88m (16'0") which ranked first amongst Division-III pole vaulters.

Texas Lutheran finished fifth and sixth in the 400m hurdles as Rickey Franks (Rockport/Rockport-Fulton) netted a fifth place finish at 56.13 seconds while Jacob Grissom (Thrall/Thrall) crossed the finish line at 58.31 seconds to finish sixth.

The 4x100m relay team comprised of Gilbert Dominguez Jr. (Round Rock/Stony Point), Wyatt Wilson (New Braunfels/New Braunfels), Braylen Brown, and Eden Perez ran a season-best time of 41.66 seconds to finish fourth.

Amir McClain (Converse/Veterans Memorial) tied for second in the high jump with a final mark of 1.97m (6' 5.5") while Parker Cabra (Schertz/Randolph) finished fifth at 1.92m (6' 3.5"). McClain also finished fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.66m (44' 9.75").

Beau Hill (Salado/Salado) finished ninth in the hammer throw with a mark of 38.10m (125' 0").
