Records Fall as Texas Lutheran Opens Outdoor Season at CenTex Invite
GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran track and field opened its outdoor season at the CenTex Invite this weekend in Georgetown - one of the first outdoor track and field events in the country this season.
Freshman Amir McClain (Converse/Veterans Memorial) made a statement to start his collegiate career, winning the triple jump with a program record breaking mark of 14.20m (46-7.00).
Ezra Acero (San Antonio/Harlan) picked up where he left off last season, winning the pole vault with a mark of 4.70m (15-5.00).
While the Bulldogs did not win the javelin throw, they still had a good showing led by Ezra Acero's record breaking second place finish with a mark of 57.32m (188-1.00). The mark passes the previous record held by current TLU volunteer assistant coach Weston Geiger (187-2.00, 2022). Cutter Clancy (Stockdale/Stockdale) finished third with a mark of 47.77m and Jacob Cortinas (Brownsville/Lopez Early College) finished fourth with a mark of 45.82m (150-4.00).
The 4x400m relay team comprised of TLU newcomers Braylen Brown, David Hinojosa, Gavino Ramirez (Alice/Alice), and Eden Perez won the event with a winning time of 3:18.27. The Texas Lutheran 4x100m relay team, a squad that has qualified for nationals in back-to-back seasons opened outdoor season with a time of 42.11 seconds with a squad comprised of Weston Guzman (McAllen/McAllen), Wyatt Wilson (New Braunfels/New Braunfels), Trevor Waz, and Eden Perez.
Parker Cabra (Schertz/Randolph) tied for first in the high jump with a mark of 1.95m (6-4.75) while McClain finished fourth with a mark of 1.90m (6-2.75).
Garrett Haass (La Vernia/La Vernia) finished second overall and first amongst Division-III competitors in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.22 seconds. Freshman Braylen Brown also finished second overall and first amongst Division-III competitors in the 400m dash with a time of 48.19 seconds.
Jacob Grissom (Thrall/Thrall) finished third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.04.
