TLU Men's Track and Field Qualifies Five for NCAA Championships
SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran men's track and field team will send five qualifiers to the 2023 NCAA Division-III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina from May 23-25.
Junior Ezra Acero (San Antonio/Harlan) is set to compete in his second consecutive NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship after qualifying in 2023 as a sophomore. Narrowly missing All-American status in 2023, Acero enters the event tied for seventh in NCAA Division-III with a school record mark of 5.02m (16' 5.5") set in March.
For the second consecutive season, Texas Lutheran will send a 4x100m relay team to the NCAA Championship meet. 2023 All-Americans Bryce Powell-Chimene (Dayton/Dayton) and Weston Guzman (McAllen/McAllen) return to the championship meet looking to repeat as All-Americans in the 4x100m relay, this time flanked by first-time qualifiers - sophomores Justin Freeney (Montgomery/Lake Creek) and Rickey Franks (Rockport/Rockport-Fulton). The team enters the event ranked 14th in NCAA Division-III. The team enters with a season-best time of 40.80 seconds which they ran in the Trinity Last Chance Meet last Sunday.
Both Acero and the 4x100m relay team will open on Thursday, May 23, with Acero getting the festivities started for the Bulldogs at 3 PM.
