Acero Wins Pole Vault as TLU Competes in War Hawk Classic

ABILENE, Texas -- Texas Lutheran track and field competed in the 2024 War Hawk Classic hosted by future conference foe McMurry University over the course of Friday and Saturday in Abilene.

Ezra Acero (San Antonio/Harlan), the SCAC Field Athlete of the Week two weeks ago, continued his impressive spring - winning the pole vault on Saturday with a mark of 4.75m (15' 7"). Acero currently sits second on the national leaderboard with his record breaking 5.02m (16' 5.5") mark at the Bobcat Invitational.

Weston Guzman (McAllen/McAllen) finished fifth in the 100m dash - first amongst Division-III sprinters - with a season-best time of 10.62 seconds. Bryce Powell-Chimene (Dayton/Dayton) finished sixth overall and third amongst Division-III sprinters in the 200m dash with a season-best time of 21.53 seconds. Gabriel Ceballos (San Antonio/Smithson Valley) finished fourth in the 800m run with a time of 1:59.03.

Parker Cabra (Schertz/Randolph) finished second in the high jump with a season-best mark of 2.00m. Darnell Horton (Detroit, MI/East English Village Prep) finished fifth in the long jump - third amongst Division-III jumpers - with a mark of 6.58m (21' 7.25").

In throws, Weston Geiger (Shiner/St. Paul) finished third in the javelin throw Friday night with a mark of 48.90m (160' 5"). Chase Cook (Austin/McNeil) and Riley Denman (Pearland/Pearland) finished fifth and sixth overall - second and third amongst Division-III throwers - in the hammer throw with marks of 50.14m (164' 06") and 47.50m (155'10").
