Men's Track & Field Wins Four Events at D3 Challenge

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran men's track and field program won four events during its lone home meet, the D3 Challenge, on Saturday at Bulldog Stadium.

For the second time this outdoor season, Bryce Powell-Chimene (Dayton/Dayton) won the 400m dash with a time of 48.27 seconds, further solidifying his spot in the top ten of NCAA Division-III in the event.

In what was a highly anticipated race on the day, featuring four of the top ten teams in NCAA Division-III, the Texas Lutheran 4x100m relay team comprised of Powell-Chimene, Wyatt Wilson (New Braunfels/New Braunfels), Justin Freeney (Montgomery/Lake Creek), and Weston Guzman (McAllen/McAllen) finished second with a season-best time of 41.60 seconds, remaining in the top five in Division-III. East Texas Baptist would win the race with a new Division-III leading time of 41.36 seconds.

Weston Guzman and Wyatt Wilson finished third and fourth respectively in the 100m dash with times of 10.71 seconds and 10.72 seconds. With the time, Guzman joins Wilson in the top 15 in Division-III. Guzman would also finish third in the 200m dash with a time of 21.83 seconds.

Freshman Layden Lara (Goliad/Goliad) won the triple jump with a career-best mark of 13.36m (43' 10").

Freshman Wesley Holub (Wallis/Brazos) finished second in the 5000m run with a time of 15:49.99.

Freshman Parker Cabra (Schertz/Randolph) finished third in the high jump with a mark of 1.90m (6' 2.75").

Rickey Franks (Rockport/Rockport-Fulton) finished fourth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.70 seconds.

The 4x400m relay team comprised of Powell-Chimene, Kaleb Brachett (Beaumont/West Brook), Freeney, and Mateo Alvear (San Marcos/San Marcos) finished fourth with a season-best time of 3:22.61.

Garrett Haass (La Vernia/La Vernia) finished fifth in the 110m hurdles, finishing with a career-best time of 15.24 seconds.

In throws, Dalon Harris (Garland/Lakeview Centennial), who was the SCAC Field Athlete of the Week his last time out, won the shot put with a mark of 14.24m (46' 8.75") and the discus throw with a mark of 46.46m (152' 5"). Harris currently ranks second nationally in the shot put and moved into the top ten nationally with his discus mark on Saturday.

Ezra Acero (San Antonio/Harlan) won the javelin throw with a mark of 55.07m (180' 8"). Acero now ranks in the top 15 nationally in the pole vault and javelin throw. Weston Geiger (Shiner/St. Paul) finished second in the javelin throw with a mark of 50.69m (166'4").

Texas Lutheran finished second, third, and fourth in the hammer throw, which took place Friday evening. Chase Cook (Austin/McNeil) led the Bulldogs with a 49.45m (162' 3") mark. Riley Denman (Pearland/Pearland) and Weston Geiger would finish third and fourth with marks of 47.64m (156' 3") and 43.88m (143' 11") respectively.
