Acero Wins Pole Vault as TLU Opens Indoor Season
LAKE CHARLES, LA -- The Texas Lutheran men's track and field team opened its indoor season Friday at the McNeese Indoor Invite at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Ezra Acero (San Antonio/Harlan) picked up where he left off a season ago, winning the pole vault with a mark of 4.50m. Acero wins the event after a second place finish at the McNeese Invite in 2023.
Dalon Harris (Garland/Lakeview Centennial) - an All-Region performer in the indoor shot put a season ago - finished second in the shot put, only trailing a Division-I thrower from McNeese State, with a mark of 15.75m. Weston Geiger (Shiner/St. Paul) (13.42m) and Riley Denman (Pearland/Pearland) (13.02m) joined Harris in the top ten finishing seventh and eighth respectively in the shot put.
Chase Cook (Austin/McNeil) finished third in the weight throw, first amongst D3 competitors, with a mark of 15.56m while Riley Denman would finish fifth with a mark of 14.99m.
Freshman Parker Cabra (Schertz/Randolph) finished third in the high jump (1.90m) and second in the 55m hurdles (8.34 seconds) in his TLU track and field debut. Garrett Haass (La Vernia/La Vernia), last year's SCAC 110m hurdles champion, finished third in the 55m hurdles with a time of 8.42 seconds.
Coach McCown's Comments: "This was a good opener for us. We had several event champions, several personal bests and a very positive first meet for both the Men's and Women's teams. It's always good to get meet one under your belt and have a starting point to work off of, build on and improve on. It will be fun to see what this group can accomplish this season. Go Dogs!"
