Reyes, Twitero Set School Records as Bulldogs Compete in Last Chance Meet

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Texas Lutheran men's track and field competed in the Saints Last Chance Invitational Meet hosted by Our Lady of the Lake at Holy Cross High School in San Antonio, Texas, on Friday, May 13, as they continued a series of last chance meets as they prepare for the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 26-28.

Sophomore Scottie Reyes (Dilley/Dilley) erased his own school record in the discus throw in what made for a banner day in the ring on Friday.

Reyes eclipsed his previous record mark of 50.17 meters with his mark of 51.76 meters on Friday. With the record-breaking mark, Reyes not only won the event but moved to fifth in the country in the discus with the 2022 National Championships two weeks away.

Reyes also won the hammer throw and shot put with mark of 50.09-meters and 16.07-meters respectively - both PRs. The 16.07m mark in shot put helped Reyes move to 16th in the country in the event at the Division-III level.

After matching the school record at the 2022 SCAC Championships, Gerrit Twitero (McQueeney/Seguin) took sole possession of the Texas Lutheran men's high jump record on Friday with a mark of 1.98-meters. The mark also lands him on the national leaderboard at 49th in the country.

The Texas Lutheran men's 4x100m relay team, which currently sits as one of the top 25 teams in the country, finished second with a time of 41.89 seconds.

Wyatt Wilson (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) collected a pair of top ten finishes including a PR in the 100m dash with a time of 10.97 seconds to finish tenth in the race. Wilson would finish fourth in the 200m dash. Elijah Jefferson (San Antonio/Construction Careers Academy) finished second in the 100m dash with a time of 10.79 seconds.

Weston Geiger (Shiner/St. Paul) finished second in the javelin throw with a 51.70m mark.

Coach Holland's Comments: "This was the first time we've ever been to a track & field meet hosted by OLLU. They don't have a facility, so they used a brand new facility at a high school nearby. It wasn't the best for a few of the events we were trying to qualify for NCAAs in, but we still got in there and competed.

The highlight of the evening was Scottie Reyes hitting PRs in all three of his events. In shot, his throw moved him up on the NCAA list. His mark in the discus was a school record and put him high on the NCAA standings. Also earning himself an improvement and a new school record was high jumper Gerrit Twitero at 1.98 meters. His final attempt at 2.03 meters was up and over until his feet tapped the bar on the way down. Freshman Wyatt Wilson ran a new PR by dipping under 11 in the 100 meters."

Scottie Reyes, Zachary Herman, Gerrit Twitero, and the TLU men's 4x100m relay team will comprise a small contingent of Bulldogs that will travel to Redlands, California, to compete in the 2022 Redlands Final Qualifier on May 18-19.
