TLU Continues Record Breaking Season at FasTrak Challenge
HOUSTON, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran track and field team continued its record breaking 2023 indoor campaign Saturday at the FasTrak Indoor Collegiate Challenge hosted by the University of Houston at Yeoman Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs set three new school records and won three events on the day.
Ezra Acero (San Antonio/Harlan), a USTFCCCA All-Region pole vaulter last season, broke his own school record in the indoor pole vault - winning the event with a mark of 4.60m.
Carlos Cura (Midkiff/Rankin), after leading TLU Cross Country to a fifth-place finish and qualifying for the NCAA West Regional Cross Country Meet in the fall, set a new school record for the men's indoor mile with a time of 4:27.62 to finish seventh overall. Cura along with Koby Green (San Antonio/Clark), Mateo Alvear (San Marcos/San Marcos), and Luis Green (Monterrey, Mexico/Smithson Valley) set the school record inthe Men's Distance Medley with a time of 10:49.57, finishing fifth overall in the event.
In sprints, Bryce Powell-Chimene (Dayton/Dayton) finished second in the 400m dash with a time of 50.51 seconds. Elijah Jefferson (San Antonio/Construction Careers Academy) finished third in the 200m dash (22.05) and fifth in the 60m dash (7.01s).
Gerrit Twitero (McQueeney/Seguin) continues his stellar indoor season finishing second in the high jump with a mark of 1.94m.
In throws, Texas Lutheran swept the first three places in the weight throw with Weston Geiger (Shiner/St. Paul) winning the event with a mark of 14.84m. Chase Cook (Austin/McNeil) and Riley Denman (Pearland/Pearland) finished second (14.36m) and third (13.54m) in the weight throw respectively. Freshman Dalon Harris tallied his first collegiate win of his young career, winning the shot put with a mark of 14.05m. Riley Denman would also finish in the top five in the shot put with a mark of 12.71m.

Coach Holland's Comments: "What a great opportunity to get a large majority of our team out there to compete today! For the most part, quite a few of the teams were D3. As a result, it turned out to be great for us. Lots of high places, new school records, winning heats in various events; all great showings!
