Jefferson, Twitero Compete at Air Force Invitational

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- Texas Lutheran only traveled two competitors, the record breaking duo of Elijah Jefferson (San Antonio/Construction Careers Academy) and Gerrit Twitero (McQueeney/Seguin), to the Air Force Invitational at the Peak hosted by the United States Air Force Academy on Friday.

Jefferson continued his impressive indoor season finishing second in the 200m dash with a time 21.90 seconds and fourth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.02 seconds - a personal record.

Twitero, who has set a new TLU indoor high jump mark in every indoor meet this season, matched his record from last week's McNeese Indoor Invite with a mark of 1.95m to finish fourth overall in the event. Twitero attempted to set a new record at 2.03m but fell just short.

Coach Holland's Comments: "It was another good meet for us this weekend. Elijah ran well in both the 60 and the 200. He ran PRs both times he ran in the 60 (prelims and finals). He has good speed, he just needs some work on his start. Once we fix some technical aspects of his start, I feel he can run under 7. He struggled on the turn in the 200, and didn't run his best this week, but still had a solid race.

Gerrit competed well in the high jump again this week. He decided to pass his last attempt at 2.00 meters and go for 2.03 - a height that would likely earn him a spot at the indoor NCAA championships - and had a very close attempt at clearing the height. Every week, just a little better each time. Always progress!

I'm looking forward to having the team compete back in Texas on a banked track next week in Houston. We typically place well in throws at this facility as well."

The Texas Lutheran indoor track and field campaign continues on Saturday, Feb. 11 as the Bulldogs travel to Houston to compete in the FasTrak Athletix Collegiate Challenge hosted by the University of Houston.
