Texas Lutheran Competes in Day Two of Men's ITA Southwest Regional Championships

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran men's tennis team competed in day two of the 2023 ITA Southwest Regional Championships hosted by Trinity University in San Antonio on Friday.

Doubles play opened on Friday as the team of Cashton Herrera (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) and Austin Hudson (San Marcos/San Marcos) dropped their opening round doubles match in the A Draw, 8-1. The B Draw was nicer to the Bulldogs picking up two victories as the team of Jackson Leslie (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) & Xavier Cristan (Corpus Christi/Flour Bluff) won 8-4 over McMurry and freshmen Kadon Sullins and JT Figueroa (New Braunfels/St. John Paul II) won 8-5 over Schreiner.

Singles play continued on Friday as TLU participated in the consolation bracket of the A Draw while Flight B opened play. Herrera and Eric Moninger (New Braunfels/New Braunfels), who each dropped their opening matches in the A Draw on Thursday won their first matches in the consolation bracket with Moninger earning a 6-2,6-2 win over Howard Payne and Herrera earning a three-set 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 victory over St. Thomas before each would fall in the round of 16.
