TLU Men's Tennis competes in ITA Southwest Regional

SAN ANTONIO, TX -- Texas Lutheran Men's Tennis competed in the 2021 Southwest Regional ITAs this weekend on the campus of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.

DAY ONE (Thursday)

Texas Lutheran lost both matches in the B circuit Thursday afternoon.

DAY TWO (Friday)

Simon Carandang (Austin/Akins) & Matthew Stephenson (Wharton/Wharton) were both able to advance in the consolation bracket of the solo B circuit. Carandang won in straight sets vs. McMurry and Stephenson picked up a solo victory vs. Concordia (TX).

In the C circuit, freshman Hunter-Kemball Cook (Friendswood/Clear Brook) won over East Texas Baptist, 6-3, 7-6(4). Carter Marsh (New Braunfels/Smithson Valley) and Joshua Huang (Port Lavaca/Calhoun) both advanced to the second round in the D Draw in dominant fashion as Marsh won 6-2, 6-0 over St. Thomas & Huang won 6-1, 6-1 over Howard Payne before losing their next two matches. After dropping his first match in the D Draw, Aaron Salinas (Kerrville/Tivy) was able to respond with a victory in the consolation bracket over McMurry.

In doubles action, the Bulldogs dropped all 4 opening matches.

DAY THREE (Saturday)

Carandang & Stephenson were back in action Saturday morning in the solo B draw consolation bracket. Carandang lost his opening matchup vs. LeTourneau while Stephenson won his opening matchup vs. East Texas Baptist to advance to the quarterfinals in the consolation bracket before losing in the semifinals to LeTourneau.

The Bulldogs would lose their remaining matches in the C & D Draw.


The ITA regional concludes Texas Lutheran Men's Tennis fall season. The Bulldogs will return to the court this spring.
