Pena Becomes TLU's All-Time Shutouts Leader as TLU Blanks Centenary, 1-0

SHREVEPORT, LA -- Texas Lutheran men's soccer (8-2-4, 4-2-3 SCAC) secured its ninth shutout of the season in a 1-0 win on the road over Centenary (7-8-1, 3-6 SCAC) in Shreveport for their final road match of the regular season on Sunday.

The lone goal of the contest came in the 68th minute as Diego Sanchez (Humble/Atascocita) found Jack Manke (Houston/Stratford) for the game-winner. The assist was Sanchez's third of the season with Manke registering his third goal of the season.

Noel Pena played a huge role in preserving the win for TLU, recording his eighth win and ninth solo shutout of the season. The Bulldogs keeper made five saves on the day, including three in the second half. With the shutout Pena passes Jonathan Michael (26.5, 2012-15) to become TLU men's soccer's all-time leader in shutouts with 27 in his career. Pena needs one more shutout to break his own record for shutouts in a single-season. Pena ranks in the top 25 nationally with a 0.57 goals against average this season.

The Bulldogs outshot the Gents 17-10 with a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Texas Lutheran returns home for the final weekend of the regular season as they continue to fight to get into the 2024 SCAC Tournament. The Bulldogs will open the weekend against McMurry on Friday, Nov. 1. First kick is scheduled for 5 PM with the match streamed on TLU+.
