Late Goal Lifts Bulldogs Over Capital

COLUMBUS, OH -- Senior Gavin Edwards (Missouri City/Ridge Point), who entered the 2024 season with two goals in his career, found the back of the net for his second goal of the 2024 season in the 77th minute via an assist from Jack Manke (Houston/Stratford) to give the Texas Lutheran men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Capital University on Friday at Bernlohr Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. The Bulldogs improve to 2-0-1 while the Comets fall to 0-1-2.

Through three matches, Edwards is tied amongst SCAC leaders with two goals.

Texas Lutheran outshot the Comets, 9-6, while holding a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal. Texas Lutheran also took five corners compared to three for Capital while the Comets committed 15 fouls to the Bulldogs eight.

Noel Pena (Houston/Cy-Falls) picks up his first shutout of the season and the 19th of his career, making his lone save in the second half.
