#21 Bulldogs Outlast Austin College, 4-2

SHERMAN, Texas -- The No. 21 Texas Lutheran men's soccer team, known for its patented defense, relied on its offensive firepower Friday night against Austin College, defeating the 'Roos, 4-2. The Bulldogs improve to 13-2 and 4-2 in SCAC play while Austin College falls to 7-6-1 and 2-3-1 in conference action.

With the win, the Bulldogs come within two wins of matching the program record of 15 wins in a single season set in 2019.

Jack Manke (Houston/Stratford) netted his seventh goal of the season. Junior Preston Huff (Cypress/Cy-Fair) collected three points, scoring his eighth goal of the season and tallying an assist on Manke's goal while Louis Hart (Missouri City/Ridge Point) found the back of the net for the third time this season. Erick Lopez (Humble/Humble) would also net a goal for the Bulldogs via one of two second half assists from Diego Roman (Houston/Lamar). Cole Sixkiller (San Antonio/Reagan) would also tally an assist for the Bulldogs on the night.

The Bulldogs put the pressure on all game as 11 of their 21 shots were on goal while the 'Roos had five shots on goal on 12 total shots.

Texas Lutheran took the early lead in the 11th minute on a goal from Jack Manke and doubled their lead just under a minute later via a goal from Preston Huff via an assist from Cole Sixkiller.

Erick Lopez would increase the Bulldog lead to 3-0 with a goal two minutes into the start of the second half.

Austin College would attempt to mount a comeback as Louis Catchpole - the SCAC's leading goal scorer entering the weekend - scored twice in three minutes to bring the match to 3-2 with just over 20 minutes remaining.

Texas Lutheran put the match away for good in the 82nd minute as Louis Hart headed in a cross from Diego Roman to bring the match to its final score of 4-2.

The Bulldogs return home to Gustafson Field for their final two matches of the 2023 regular season starting with their match against Dallas on Sunday, Oct. 22. Kick off is set for 2 PM and will be broadcast on TLU+. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com. Sunday will act as Senior Day for the Bulldogs as they honor their four seniors: Santiago Quinonez (Chihuahua, Mexico/New Braunfels), Mark Costanza (Tyler/Robert E. Lee), Efrain Huerta (San Antonio/Brennan), and Luis Zamora (Conroe/Conroe).
