Men's Soccer Ranked No. 19 by United Soccer Coaches

SEGUIN, Texas -- Following a record breaking 11-0 start, the Texas Lutheran men's soccer program has been ranked at No. 19 by the United Soccer Coaches, as the orginazation announced on Tuesday.

This is the first national ranking in TLU men's soccer program history.

Texas Lutheran has opened the 2023 season in style breaking records for best start and longest win streak so far this season. The Bulldogs earn their ranking following a 2-0 weekend that was capped by a shut out of then 11th-ranked Trinity Sunday evening to remain perfect. The win is the first win over the Tigers since the 2019 SCAC Tournament and the Bulldogs 13th win in a row dating back to last season.

The Bulldogs defense has shined throughout the start of the 2023 season - tallying eight shutouts  on the season - tying for the third most in program history, trailing only the 10 shutout seasons in 2003 and 2015. The Bulldogs rank second in NCAA Division-III in Goals Against Average (.273), fifth in save percentage (.903), and sixth in shutout percentage (.727). Goalkeeper Noel Pena (Houston/Cy-Falls) leads the SCAC in every statistcal category while being second in shutouts, third in goals against average, sixth in save percentage in NCAA Division-III. 

Offensively, Jack Manke (Houston/Stratford) and Preston Huff (Cypress/Cy-Fair) are tied for fourth in the SCAC with five goals each and fifth in the SCAC with 12 points each.

For their efforts, Texas Lutheran has earned at least one SCAC Player of the Week honor every week so far this season with Jack Manke leading with three honors.

After a four-game homestand, the Bulldogs will now venture out on a four-game road trip starting with a trip to Shreveport, Louisiana, for a matchup with the Centenary College Gents on Friday, Oct. 6.
