Men's Soccer Announces 2023 Schedule

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran men's soccer head coach Eddie Salazar announced the Bulldogs 2023 schedule Wednesday. The Bulldogs will play a total of 19 matches - including exhibitions - with seven of them at Arthur Gustafson Soccer Field.

TLU opens the season with a road exhibition match against Our Lady of the Lake on Monday, Aug. 21. The Bulldogs will then play their annual preseason Alumni Game at Gustafson Field on Saturday, Aug. 26 at 7 PM.

The Bulldogs kick off the regular season with a trip to California as they face Occidental (Sept. 1) and Cal Lutheran (Sept. 3) on their west coast road trip to begin the 2023 season. TLU returns to Texas to continue their slew of road games to start their 2023 season as they face UMHB (Sept. 8), Concordia (TX) (Sept. 10), UT-Dallas (Sept. 15), Univ. of the Ozarks in a neutral site match in Richardson (Sept. 17), and Howard Payne (Sept. 19) all on the road in a well-traveled month of September. The month will conclude with a trio of home games in Seguin beginning with the 2023 home opener against Hardin-Simmons taking place on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7:30 PM. The Bulldogs will face McMurry (Sept. 24) before opening SCAC play against Schreiner on Sept. 29.

The final month of the regular season starts at home as the Bulldogs welcome SCAC foe and rival Trinity on Sunday, Oct. 1 for a 2 PM match. TLU will then travel to Centenary (Oct. 6), St. Thomas (Oct. 8), Colorado College (Oct. 15), and Austin College (Oct. 20) for the heart of their conference schedule. Texas Lutheran returns home to close out the 2023 regular season and SCAC play with home matches against Dallas (Oct. 22) and rival Southwestern (Oct. 28).

The first round of the SCAC Tournament is set for Friday, Nov. 3 at AVEVA Stadium in Houston, Texas. The Bulldogs look to return to the SCAC Tournament for the first time since the Spring 2021 season.

TLU finished the 2022 campaign with an 8-4-5 overall record and a 4-2-2 SCAC record to finish fifth in the SCAC.

Four All-SCAC Players return to the squad including captain and First Team All-SCAC defender Jack Manke (Houston/Stratford). All-SCAC Second Team midfielder Louis Hart (Missouri City/Ridge Point), All-SCAC Honorable Mention midfielder Erick Lopez (Humble/Humble) and 2022 All-Freshman Team member Chris Nieto (Brownsville/Idea Toros College Prep) round out the 2022 All-SCAC honorees returning for the 2023 squad. Hart and Lopez tied to be the second leading scorers on the 2022 team with three goals each.
