KERRVILLE, Texas -- Behind Luis Green's (Monterrey, Mexico/Smithson Valley) hat trick, the Texas Lutheran men's soccer team secured the 5-0 win over Schreiner Sunday afternoon at Mountaineer Soccer Field.
Texas Lutheran came out firing on all cylinders in the first half. Jack Manke (Houston/Stratford) got the scoring started in the 29th minute, finding the back of the net on a penalty kick. Luis Green would double the Bulldogs advantage - scoring a goal in the 36th minute via an assist from Preston Huff (Cypress/Cy-Fair) to give Texas Lutheran a 2-0 lead entering halftime.
Texas Lutheran dominated the ball in the first half, maintaining a 10-1 shot advantage and controlling possession for 62 percent of the half.
The Bulldogs offensive barrage continued in the second half as Green scored his second goal of the afternoon off of an assist from Marco Roman (Houston/Lamar) in the 51st minute.
Roman would score his second goal of the season in the 53rd minute following a service from Erick Lopez (Humble/Humble).
Green netted his fifth career hat trick with a 57th minute penalty kick - the Bulldogs third goal in six minutes as the TLU lead stretched to 5-0. With the goal, Green tied Trinity's Josh Card (1999-02) for second all-time in career goals scored in SCAC history with 72 goals scored. Green now needs one goal to tie and two goals to pass Will Lukow (1991-94) of Oglethorpe for the career SCAC record currently sitting at 73 career goals scored.
Green will have a chance to set the all-time record in front of the home crowd as Texas Lutheran returns to Gustafson Field on Friday, Oct. 7, to face the Centenary College Gents at 7:30 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
