Luis Green Makes History as TLU Dominates McMurry, 4-0

ABILENE, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran men's soccer team put on a brilliant display at Wilford Moore Stadium Sunday evening, handling McMurry by a final score of 4-0 in Abilene, Texas. The Bulldogs improve to 2-1-3 on the season.

The first of the Bulldogs' four goals came from senior Luis Green (Monterrey, Mexico/Smithson Valley), who scored via an assist from Arthbert William (Cibolo/Steele) to score his first goal of the season in the 23rd minute. With that goal, Green became Texas Lutheran's all-time leader in career goals scored, officially passing Roger Gomez (1988-91) for the all-time mark. Green is now the TLU Career leader in goals, points, shots, shots on-goal, and game-winning goals. Green would find the net again in the 33rd minute to give Texas Lutheran a 2-0 first half lead courtesy of an assist of Jack Manke (Houston/Stratford). With his second goal, Green moved into a tie for third all-time in goals scored with Neil Brunetz of Rhodes College (1993-96) with 64 career goals. Green also surpassed Trinity's Chris Quinn (2001-04) to move into fourth all-time in career points in SCAC history. Green's next milestones will be to catch Trinity's Josh Card (1999-2002) who is second all-time with 72 goals scored and Rhodes's Brunetz, who is third all-time in points with 150.

Texas Lutheran continued the attack in the second half with Gavin Edwards (Missouri City/Ridge Point) increasing the Bulldog lead to 3-0 in the 56th minute with his first goal of the season and his collegiate career via an assist from Green.

In the 67th minute, Arthbert William found Luis Zamora (Conroe/Conroe) for his first goal of the season and of his collegiate career. The rest of the match went by without a score, as Texas Lutheran played 24 players and outshot the War Hawks 13-5 en route to Noel Pena (Houston/Cy-Falls) and Caleb Weed (San Antonio/Warren)'s fourth clean sheet of the season. Weed would collect the winning decision and would tally two saves in-goal for the Bulldogs.
