Nicolas Medina Named SCAC Character & Community Male Student Athlete of the Week

SEGUIN, Texas -- Nicolas Medina, a senior forward on the men's soccer team from Houston, Texas, has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Character and Community Male Student Athlete of the Week for the week beginning February 28.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

By day, you can find the Houston, Texas, native thriving in the classroom as well as on the pitch as Medina finished second in goals scored (5) and points (12) for the Bulldogs - good enough for top 15 in the SCAC in both categories as he was named All-SCAC honorable mention in the fall.

Off the field, Medina has dedicated his time to the community as a member of the Texas Lutheran Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC). Through his work with SAAC, Medina has been a part of the last two SCAC "Change for the Better" campaigns at Texas Lutheran. The 2020 campaign helped raise funds for the Abby Owens Cancer Fund and the 2022 campaign is currently raising funds for Navarro High School senior Triston Brashears-Cervantes who is battling stage 3C testicular cancer.

Outside of SAAC, Medina has also volunteered his time with the Catholic Student Organization (CSO) where he helped restock EATS Foundation Food Bank in Seguin as well as serve Thanksgiving dinner at the Guadalupe Valley Nursing Center.

When asked what community service means to him, Medina stated, "As a student-athlete, you become a part of the Seguin community so I believe it's important to help and volunteer within the community when you can."
